The DC Cannabis Commission was inspired by comedian Bill Maher to protest the federal law that makes marijuana illegal.
The plan is to sit in front of the White House on April 2nd and spark up at 4:20. The goal is to get the President to reschedule the classification of marijuana without Congress, which Obama has the power to do, and to pardon Americans that are currently jailed for marijuana crimes.
Currently, marijuana is a schedule I substance which means that it is classified as a drug with a potential for abuse and no accepted medical value. The protest’s planner Adam Eidinger says that the war on drugs is a failure and that Obama should pardon tons of people in jail for marijuana crimes.
He should pardon tens of thousands of marijuana growers in jail right now. And he should be pardoning them all. The war on drugs is a failure? Mass incarceration is a failure? Then do something about it.
