Attending Western Michigan University will cost just under $11,500 this fall after the school’s Board of Trustees voted to increase tuition by 4.19%. WMU President John Dunn says the increase keeps Western competitive with the rest of the state.

“We’re still below the average within the state of Michigan, and of the 15 public universities, with our latest tuition increase, we’re number 8,” Dunn said.

The 4.19 percent bump is just under the cap of 4.2% put on tuition increases by state lawmakers for the coming year. Any increase above that will be met with penalties.
