Michigan U.S Senator Gary Peters says he thinks Democrats can overcome any disunity caused by the primary race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Peters watched Sanders give his address to the convention Monday, and says the speech impressed on all Democrats the need to avoid a Donald Trump presidency.

“He was also very clear that this election presents a very clear choice between Secretary Clinton and Donald Trump and he is certainly not a Donald Trump supporter and knows that Donald Trump does not stand for anything he and his supporters care about,” Peters said.

Now that Hillary Clinton has been selected as the Democratic nominee for president, Bernie Sanders says the goal should be getting her elected. Michigan cast 66 votes for Sanders Tuesday, and 81 votes for Hillary Clinton. Senator Debbie Stabenow spoke for the state’s delegation, with former Senator Carl Levin standing near her.
