Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette on Friday announced charges against six state employees over the Flint water crisis. He says the individuals charged knowingly altered documents to hide the facts about the quality of the city’s water.

“Each of these individuals attempted to bury or cover up, to downplay or to hide information that contradicted their own narrative, their story,” Schuette said. “Their narrative or their story was there’s nothing wrong with Flint water, and it was perfectly safe to use.”

Misconduct in office applies to three employees from the Department of Environmental Quality and three from the state Department of Health and Human Services. Earlier this year a city employee and two state workers were also charged with misconduct.
