The race for state House in the 79th District this November has now shaped up. Winning the Republican primary on Tuesday was Kim LaSata, who finished with a substantial lead over closest rival Ryan Arnt. She said she felt “numb.”

“I just want to say thank you, and now I know what it means when people say they are humbled by all of the support,” LaSata told WSJM. “I’m thankful and we live in such a great community, and I learned that even more as I went door to door and met so many wonderful people.”

LaSata will face Democrat Marletta Seats in the race to replace state Representative Al Pscholka.

Meanwhile, several other primaries were held in Berrien County Tuesday. In the race for Berrien County Drain Commissioner, Christopher Quattrin held a strong lead over Kevin Gillette to run in November as the Republican candidate, while several county commission primaries were also decided. In District One, Dave Vollrath beat Bill Smith in the GOP primary, while in District Three’s Democratic primary, the victor was Don Meeks. In District Four, Mamie Yarbrough defeated challenger Charles Jennings, in District Seven, Deb Panozzo beat challenger Larry Klett, and in District Nine, Ezra Scott defeated Ray Kirkus in the GOP primary.

Also Tuesday, several countywide races were uncontested.
