St. Joseph City Commissioner Mary Goff has been honored for serving 30 years on the body. At a Monday meeting, commissioners commended her for her service, saying it’s been a pleasure to work together. Goff told us she’s proud to have been able to help guide the city as it’s grown over the years. She pointed to a few accomplishments of the commission.

“All of Harbor Shores, and our fountain, preserving the view of the lake from above the bluff with the Whirlpool Fountain, and the carousel and the Curious Kids building,” Goff told WSJM. “Those are probably my favorite things that we’ve done.”

However, Goff also said she’s always been careful to avoid overdeveloping the city, telling us it’s all about striking the right balance between attracting new people and preserving what gives the community its character. Goff added that she still has the same passion for serving the city as she did when she first got on the commission. She isn’t saying yet whether she’ll pursue another term when her current term is up.
