The Berrien County Youth Fair is making some changes this year to how the pig displays will be handled due to concerns about swine flu. Fair Director Karen Klug says the disease has shown up at several county fairs this year, so they’re limiting access to the swine barn. Only the exhibitors and two designated adults per family will be let in.

“I know some people will be disappointed that they won’t be able to go into the swine barn this year, but at least the kids are able to exhibit,” Klug said. “The swine show will go on. The pigs won’t be going to the livestock auction, but they still will be auctioned off.”

Klug says better safe than sorry. There will be hand washing stations set up in the swine barn for those who are allowed in. The fair is also banning eating or drinking in the barn. The fair started Monday, and runs all week.
