Indiana Michigan Power is celebrating the completion of its latest solar power facility. This week, it’s plant east of New Carlisle, Indiana went online. I&M spokesperson Tracy Warner tells WSJM News it’s their biggest solar farm yet.

“Of the four initial solar power plants that I&M is building, this will be the largest one with a capacity of five megawatts of energy, and that would be enough to power about 700 homes annually,” Warner said.

The Olive Solar Power Plant, as it’s called, is even bigger than the solar facility being built in Watervliet.

“It covers 40 acres, and includes 57,500 solar panels,” Warner said.

Warner says I&M wants to diversify its energy portfolio, which now includes coal, nuclear, wind, hydroelectric, and solar power. The company will finish its 50,000 panel solar power facility in Watervliet by the end of the year. That’ll be its fourth solar plant.
