Home sales in southwest Michigan continue to be strong, as the month of August brought an increase in units moved. Gary Walter, with the Southwest Michigan Association of Realtors, tells WSJM News it was a good month for the market.

“Previous years all the back to 2006, this is the highest August we’ve had, not only for the number of units sold, but also for the total dollar volume that it produced,” Walter said.

The average sale price for August was down 2% from August of last year, but the average price for the year as a whole is up 3%. Walter says foreclosed homes accounted for 10% of homes sold. That’s a lot better than the 75% the association saw back in February of 2009, when foreclosures were at their highest.
