Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson has kicked off the 26th annual Harvest Gathering food drive. She tells WSJM News the drive began Thursday, collecting non-perishables for the needy at all 131 branch offices. Johnson says Michiganders are pretty generous.

“We were able to bring in 7 tons of food which provided 12,000 meals to families in need last year, and if you look at the last five years, our branches have collected more than 30 tons of food which has provided more than 50,000 meals,” Johnson said.

You can stop by any secretary of state branch office through November 23 to drop off an item. They go to the Food Bank Council of Michigan, which then distributes the items to local food banks.
