General Motors is cutting shifts at two plants, eliminating about two thousand jobs. The Lansing Grand River Plant builds Camaros and Cadillacs. The Lordstown plant makes the Chevy Cruze small car. AutoTrader analyst Michelle Krebs says this comes as sales of those products have been declining.

“This comes as no surprise,” Krebs said. “General Motors sort of signaled this a few weeks ago saying it would definitely keep production in line with demand, and frankly, demand for traditional cars just isn’t there.”

The shifts will be eliminated in January. GM is also investing $900 million in three plants to prepare them for production of new products.
