Something’s fishy in St. Joseph. The theme for the 2017 public art display has been unveiled, and coming this summer to the downtown area will be “Fishing for Fun,” featuring 20 statues of fish. City Marketing Director Susan Solon tells us they’ll have some friendly sharks and a special model that tricks the eye.

“We’re going to have a jumping fish which is going to be made of two components,” Solon said. “It’s going to have the illusion that it’s coming right out of the sidewalk.”

As always, the statues will be painted by local artists. The fish will be released on May 19 and be on display all summer to be sold at auction next fall. This is the 14th year for the St. Joe public art display, and Solon says it’s done wonders in terms of getting families to visit the downtown area.
