Cyber Monday is giving Black Friday a run for its money in Michigan. AAA’s latest Consumer Pulse survey shows the top shopping day this year for Michiganders will be Monday, when 48% of respondents said they’d try to snag a deal. 47% said Black Friday. As AAA’s Susan Hiltz tells WSJM  News, either way, this is a good time for retailers.

“According to our survey, Michigan shoppers plan to spend about $833 on gifts, and that’s a nearly 20% increase over last year,” Hiltz said. “So, that’s good news for the economy and the retail industry.”

The top five items people are buying are clothing, gift cards, toys, books, and electronics. Hiltz says the survey also found most folks want to receive gift cards. Michigan shoppers on average plan to spend more than $800 on gifts this year, about a 20% increase over last year.
