A new report from the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning finds 41% of young adult drivers will admit to texting while driving. T?he office’s Kendal Wingrove tells us the best way for the police to to fight the problem is education and enforcement.
“It’s a two-pronged component,” Wingrove said. “Both educate the public and have solid law enforcement on that issue. The two go hand in hand.”
Wingrove says texting and driving needs to be combated like drunk driving or lack of seat belt use. Of the distracted driving crashes in 2015, a cell phone was involved in more than 750 crashes, with three fatalities and 251 injuries.
