Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies will soon be receiving training in how to spot and prevent elder abuse. Sheriff Richard Fuller tells WKZO News police have recognized over the years that the exploitation of the elderly is often perpetrated by family and caretakers. The training will explore several areas.

“Who’s got the power of attorney and what that means,” Fuller said. “We’re going to learn all about where we can check these accounts, and how we can track such things.”

According to the National Council on Aging, one in ten people over the age of 60 will become the victims of abuse.
