The 34th annual police National Night Out is next week. Set for Tuesday, the event involves police departments all over the country gathering in local parks to mingle with the public. In St. Joseph, police will be at Riverview Park’s Briarwood Pavilion. St. Joseph Township Police Department Officer Rick Knapp tells WSJM News they’ll do equipment demonstrations.

“We’re going to have a Jaws of Life demonstration,” Knapp said. “Fire station 1 at the St. Joe Township Fire Department is going to be doing the Jaws of Life demonstration. Jeff’s Towing is supplying the vehicle that they’re going to be cutting up to show residents the equipment that fire departments use for extraction techniques.”

National Night Out is Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In addition to the St. Joseph event, there will be Nights Out in Benton Harbor, Buchanan, and Berrien Springs. Hot dogs and beverages will be served at the events, and everyone is welcome.
