This is the time of year when the danger of heatstroke is at its highest, and AAA of Michigan is reminding parents not to leave their kids in a hot car. Spokesperson Susan Hiltz tells WSJM News such deaths are up this year.
“The U.S. heatstroke deaths of children left in cars is at 29 right now, and that’s five more deaths than at this time last year,” Hiltz said. “So, it’s pretty alarming, and we just kind of want to sound the bell and remind folks.”
Hiltz tells us it only takes a few minutes on a hot car to lead to heat stroke. She advises all parents and caregivers to take a second to glance at the backseat before leaving the car.
