Van Buren County residents are being invited to sign up for the sheriff’s department’s next Citizens Police Academy. It’s a chance for anyone in the public to learn all about what a police officer does. The program starts on January 17 of next year, and runs for eleven weeks. Those who take part will learn about an officer’s duties, how the officer carries them out, and what the results can be. Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbot tells us he believes the academy is a valuable experience for those who join. The sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Van Buren County sheriff’s Department in Paw Paw. You have to be a county resident and at least 18 years old.
