Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey has been named the 2018 president of the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association. Sheriffs’ Association Director Blaine Koops tells WSJM News Bailey was picked to represent law enforcement from all over the state because he is respected by his colleagues.
“Paul is truly the consummate sheriff,” Koops said. “Many sheriffs look up to Paul’s work, particularly his connectivity with his community.”
Sheriff Bailey tells us he will still serve locally as sheriff, but with a few extra responsibilities
“I will go up and testify on different legislation that’s coming up that affects public safety,” Bailey said. “I will do a little bit of travelling in the state to attend the district meetings, and then I’ll go to a couple of National Sheriffs Association Conferences.”
Bailey’s term at the sheriffs’ association president will be one year. He tells us he’s been a part of the Michigan Sheriff’s Association Board for several years now. Bailey is now entering into his 17th year as Berrien County Sheriff. He’s been in law enforcement for more than 30 years.
