There will be a recount of the votes in Benton Harbor regarding the city income tax. Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler has scheduled the recount for Monday at 9 a.m. at the Berrien County Courthouse. The tax passed by just 21 votes on November 7, 511-to-490. If the result is upheld, city residents will pay 1% of their income, and non-residents who work in the city will pay a half-percent. Businesses will also taxed 1%, with Mayor Marcus Muhammad saying the revenue will be put toward infrastructure improvements.
