Congressman Fred Upton expects several more months of intensive work as hurricane cleanup continues in Puerto Rico. He took a trip there last week as part of a delegation of 10 federal lawmakers and tells WSJM News he saw devastation.

“The damage was just really incredible,” Upton said. “Many parts of the island were still without power. Maybe 30% of a community might have it. We saw roads that were washed out, bridges that were washed out.”

Upton tells us billions of dollars have been spent trying to help Puerto Rico recover from September’s hurricane. He expects billions more will have to be spent. Upton also visited the Virgin Islands, and tells us the work going on there to restore power was staggering. Upton said the government’s role in hurricane recovery will continue, noting, “All these folks are U.S. citizens.”
