InterCare is celebrating the completion of its new women’s health center in Benton Township. Executive Director Velma Hendershott tells WSJM News a $1 million grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration last year made it possible. An open house for the new 9,100 square foot facility will be held Wednesday.

“We have six exam rooms, a nurse triage, two non-stress test and ultrasound stations, testing rooms, labs,” Hendershott said. “We also have a pregnancy program, and we’ve got a room for that.”

Hendershot tells us the center was needed to meet the growing demand for women’s health services in Benton Harbor. In addition to the $1 million from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, the new InterCare Women’s Health Center is possible thanks to a $150,000 donation from the Lakeland Foundation. The new place is located right next to Intercare’s facility on M-139.
