The holidays may be a time of fun for most of us, but state Senator John Proos reminds everyone of things they need to do to avoid being ripped off. He tells WSJM News online shopping may be convenient, but that’s one way many Michiganders get scammed.

“Never give out any identifying information,” Proos said. “Social Security numbers should never be asked for over the phone or on the internet. Please be careful. Scammers love the opportunity because there are so many of us that are out and about making purchases.”

Proos says the Michigan Attorney General’s office offers plenty of information on how to stay safe and what to do if you are scammed. The website is Michigan.gov/AG. The Better Business Bureau also offers information on scams. You can find them right here.
