Property inspections are about to begin in the city of St. Joseph. Code Enforcement Officer Joan Ross tells WSJM News staff goes around checking each property every five years.

“We look at each house or structure starting at the top,” Ross said. “The roof, the siding, the condition of the trim, the doors, the stairs going down, the handrails, the condition of the property.”

Ross tells us this is a way to cut down on blight. When violations are found, she says property owners are given ample time to resolve them, and there is also an appeals and extension process. She says letters will go out to residents this month letting them know the inspections begin next month and will continue through April.
