Martin Luther King Day is this coming Monday, and the United Way of Southwest Michigan is encouraging everyone to do some community service for the occasion. The United Way’s Julee Laurent tells WSJM News the organization has heard of a variety of community service efforts planned for MLK Day.

“We’ve got a group of girls from Upton Middle School making get well and encouragement cards for kids going through chemo,” Laurent said. “We have a student at St. Joe High School doing a canned food drive for the soup kitchen, and we have a student at Lincoln Elementary School who is collecting new toys for homeless children.”

The United Way of Southwest Michigan has put together a list of such MLK activities and placed it online. Laurent says you should take a look and consider how you might get involved on Monday. You can find the United Way’s MLK Day page right here.
