AAA of Michigan says gas prices have increased 8¢ a gallon in the last week, despite gasoline inventories being at a high not seen since September in the Midwest. The latest increase might be because oil prices are near a three-year high. Continued cuts by OPEC nations and Russia are keeping prices high according to GasBuddy’s Patrick DeHaan.

“Their decision in November 2016 to cut oil production has weighed significantly on the markets,” DeHaan tells us, adding that’s pushing up prices. The average price in Michigan stands at $2.67 per gallon, about 30¢ more than this time last year. The state’s most expensive gas is in Ann Arbor at $2.75, while Marquette drivers pay the least at $2.64 per gallon. AAA puts the average in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph at $2.72, up 8¢ from last week. According to GasBuddy, South Haven’s prices aren’t much lower at around $2.66 per gallon.
