Now that Governor Rick Snyder has approved a disaster declaration for 17 counties affected by flooding this month and last month, Congressman Fred Upton is hoping to get some federal relief for businesses that were hurt. He spoke with WSJM News about the flooding this week.

“I was glad to see that Governor Snyder has approved the disaster declaration, particular for small businesses that were impacted,” Upton said, “I’m working with our congressional delegation who represent some of those counties that were declared a disaster to see if we can get such a declaration made by the Small Business Administration now that the state has rendered their opinion.”

Upton and other members of Michigan’s congressional delegation have sent a letter to the Small Business Administration asking for damage assessments in areas hit by flooding. He says that could open up the possibility for low-interest loans for flood relief.
