A recent report based on numbers from the University of Michigan inaccurately reported the number of homeless students at Berrien Springs Public Schools. So says the district’s special education director. Danny Bartz tells us a report run by some TV stations placed Berrien Springs high on the list Michigan school districts in that regard.

“That had indicated that Berrien Springs was number ten in the list of public school districts in the state with students who are considered homeless,” Bartz said.

Bartz tells us the report said Berrien Springs had more than 340 homeless students. Actually, he says it has about 150, or 0.05% of the student body. Berrien Springs Public Schools and other districts have to report that figure to their ISD. The number eventually winds up with the feds and helps determine some funding.
