Indiana Michigan Power has been saluted for its green energy policies. The company has been named a 2018 Environmental Champion from a Cogent Reports study by Market Strategies International. I&M spokesperson Tracy Warner tells WSJM News the honor is for the company’s renewable energy portfolio. He says I&M gets two thirds of its electricity generation from emission-free sources, with the Cook nuclear power plant in Bridgman being a big part of that. I&M also has solar, hydroelectric, and wind programs.

“Last year, we achieved savings of more than 130 million kilowatt hours through these energy programs, and that’s the equivalent to powering more than 10,000 homes for a year,” Warner said.

I&M is one of 43 utilities on the Cogent Reports study by Market Strategies International list. Warner tells us the company plans to triple its wind production and greatly increase its solar production over the next 20 years.
