The latest candidate to announce she’s running for the Michigan House in the 79th District says she has the perspective it will take to represent Berrien County. Maria Moen works as a relocation consultant for folks moving to southwest Michigan. She tells WSJM News they always ask about the schools first.

“I believe that we need a very well-educated workforce,” Moen said. “This is crucial for any community, and to be sure that we’re using taxpayer money wisely to create the best public school system.”

Moen says she also views public safety as key.

“Public schools and businesses, if they invest in Berrien County and create jobs, they need to know that those businesses and employees will be safe,” Moen said.

Moen came to the area in 2006 and jumped into community service soon after, serving on the Lake Michigan Catholic School Board and committees for the United Way and Berrien Community Foundation. She is now on the Curious Kids Museum Board of Directors. She’s running as a Republican to replace state Representative Kim LaSata, who is now running for Michigan Senate. Also running as Republicans in the 79th are Troy Rolling and Bruce Gorenflo. We’ll talk with Gorenflo on Tuesday.
