A national drug take-back event is being held this Saturday, and Congressman Fred Upton is reminding everyone about it. He tells WSJM News the Drug Enforcement Agency is working with police agencies across the nation to collect unneeded prescription medications. Last year, the DEA collected more than 912,000 pounds of pills across more than 5,000 sites.

“It’s a national take-back day where folks can actually take those unused prescriptions that they’re not going to need anymore and know that they’re going to be disposed of properly without anyone getting their hands on them and using them in a bad way,” Upton said.

Upton tells us drug take-back events become more important as the opioid crisis takes more lives around the nation. Collection sites this Saturday in southwest Michigan will include the Bronson Wellness Center on Bailey Avenue in South Haven and the Lakeland Center for Outpatient Services on Hollywood Road in St. Joseph. You can drop off those drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Here’s a link to a searchable list of drug collection sites this weekend.
