Everyone will have a chance to learn more about the opioid epidemic at a meeting planned for next week in St. Joseph Township. St. Joe Township Police Officer Rick Knapp tells WSJM News the neighborhood watch program is welcoming a guest speaker from Families Against Narcotics and the Berrien County Medical Examiner to come and speak at the township hall next Wednesday.

“It’s going to be open to the public, and we’re going to have guest speakers from Families Against Narcotics,” Knapp said. “Amy Jonatzke is going to be there speaking about a person experience, and we’re hopefully going to give information about resources that are in the community for parents and family members.”

Knapp tells us the opioid epidemic has come to southwest Michigan, leading to deaths from overdoses. He says next week’s presentation will feature information that families can use to protect themselves. Everyone’s welcome to the forum at the township hall slated for 6:30 p.m.
