Set for Monday is the annual legislative senior and veterans expo in Van Buren County. The gathering was started about ten years ago by state Senator Tonya Schuitmaker as a way for her to stay in touch with local seniors and veterans and to connect then with state services. State Representative Beth Griffin is now part of it, and tell WSJM News the mission remains the same.

“To provide kind of a one stop shop of convenient vendors and services for seniors where they can go close to home, and it’s a place where they can get questions answered and browse the different vendors all in one place,” Griffin said.

The expo will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Antwerp Township Activity Center in Mattawan. Griffin tells us about 700 people showed up last year. In addition to having information on state services to seniors and vets, there will be some medical screenings and a free lunch. All seniors and veterans are welcome.
