One of the area’s top spirits makers is in danger of being shuttered, but there is hope. Three Oaks Village Manager Mike Greene tells WSJM News they are trying to resolve issues with Journeyman Distillery over the wastewater discharge. Journeyman has been given a cease and desist order that takes effect Friday, but Greene says he’s been in contact with the village council about it.

“We’re trying to narrow down some details and if anything, we will delay the cease and desist until next week after the council meeting,” Green says. The village planning commission got an earful from residents last night, as they’re worried about losing one of the bigger businesses in Three Oaks. Greene says the restaurant is fine, but the wastewater discharge from the distillery needs attention.

“It’s about the strength of the waste that the distillery puts into our system that we’re trying to address.” The village’s wastewater lagoon needs to be dredged and cleaned, as that hasn’t happened for roughly 30 years. Greene says Journeyman has been cooperating with their efforts with meetings since last summer, and he’s hopeful for a resolution. The next village council meeting is next Wednesday.
