Preparations are already underway for next year’s Berrien County Youth Fair now that the 2018 event is all wrapped up. Berrien County Youth Fair Director Karen Klug tells WSJM News about 105,000 people walked through the fairground gates last week. That’s compared to 121,000 the previous year. The biggest attractions?

“As usual, I think it was the youth exhibits,” Klug said. “People come to see what the kids bring to the fair, and we had 10,000 to 12,000 exhibits here. They like to come and see, walk through the barn and look at the home ec, the crafts, the flowers, the horticulture, see all the animals.”

Klug thinks attendance was down because of predicted rain last week. The busiest day was Tuesday, or Kids Day, with about 23,000 walking through the gates. Wednesday had the lowest attendance with about 12,000. Klug says the theme next year will be “Country Nights, Carnival Lights.”
