The Berrien County Parks Department is holding a free household chemical and electronics recycling event this Saturday at Silver Beach. Environmental Property Manager Jill Adams tells WSJM News anyone will be able to drop off items including unwanted garden chemicals, used oil, old gasoline, unused medication, needles, spent batteries, spray cans, oil-based paint, and electronics free of charge. She says having these items recycled keeps them out of the environment.

“Silver Beach provides a wonderful backdrop for the reason why we want to have these collections,” Adams said. “We want to keep these materials our of our environment and out of our regular trash to make sure that they get handled properly. It protects the public and it protects the environment.”

It will be free to drop off most items. The only fees come with computer monitors and televisions at $10 and $20, respectively. The drop off at Silver Beach will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can find out more right here.
