Life expectancy and health is tied directly to race and your Zip code. In Berrien County and across America racism literally kills. Dr. David Ansell, Vice President Of Community Health at Rush University Medical Center, will speak on this shocking reality tomorrow at Lake Michigan College’s Hanson Theater.

“A black person is Berrien County is seven times more likely to live in a low life expectancy neighborhood than in the highest life expectancy neighborhoods,” Ansell said. “A white person in Berrien County istwo times as likely to live in a high life expectancy neighborhood than a low life expectancy neighborhood.”

Dr. Ansell told WSJM News this racial life expectancy gap in Berrien County is huge and there’s a roughly 19-year difference in life expectancies between the lowest and highest neighborhoods. Ansell’s presentation will start at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
