The national opioid crisis is being felt all over Michigan. In Washtenaw County there have 56 overdose deaths so far this year, an increase of more than 30% from a year ago. The Washtenaw County Opioid Summit this week brought together health officials and community members to discuss the epidemic. Co-chair of the Washtenaw Opioid Project Jamina Loveluck spoke with Michigan News Network about the crisis.

“I think that definitely the health system physicians are responding to this epidemic and doing what is necessary, thinking about solutions and certainly promoting policies and legislation that will help address this epidemic,” Loveluck said.

Loveluck says local doctors are already working to confront the problem.
