Brown Elementary School in St. Joseph will dig up a 20-year-old time capsule this weekend. Principal Kristen Bawks tells WSJM News she learned about the time capsule buried by students from Brown’s previous principal, Craig Hubble.

“Former Principal Dr. John Jarpe had buried the time capsule 20 years ago with the Student Senate at the time when the media center addition was put on the building,” Bawks said.

So, do they know what’s in the capsule?

“Not entirely,” Bawks said. “Dr. Jarpe recalls that there should be a VHS video where students at the time of the time capsule being buried recorded what they would like to be when they grow up. I know we’re anticipating that, and we hope to put that into digital form and send it out to everyone who was able to participate.”

Bawks tells us the time capsule is buried outside the media center in the courtyard. Anyone who was a student at Brown at the time is welcome to head down to the school on Sunday at 1 p.m.
