Coming up this month will be Adoption Day at the Van Buren County Courthouse in Paw Paw. Veronica Stillson with the Van Buren County Circuit Court Family Division tells WSJM News it’s a day when several adoptions are made official by the judge and everyone celebrates.

“We actually celebrate this year with six different children,” Stillson said. “All different types of adoptions this year. We have a couple of step-parents, we have an agency adoption, and we have an adult adoption. This will be a chance for the public to see the different types of adoptions that happen and to understand the need.”

The “Giving Thanks for Families” Adoption Day celebration will on Tuesday, November 20 at 10 a.m. at the courthouse. Stillson says most of the 50 to 60 adoptions finalized in Van Buren County each year involve step-parents, but there are also many adult adoptions. On hand for the celebration on the 20th will be the Mattawan High School a-cappella group MUSE and the Mattawan High School Master Singers to provide music.
