Party doesn’t matter when it comes to one of the top legislative issues: bringing down the state’s high auto insurance rates. Members of both parties have identified it as their main concern going forward. Incoming House Speaker Lee Chatfield says changes are overdue.
“Unfortunately the people in the state of Michigan, per household, pay on average $1,000 more than other Midwest states on their car insurance,” says Chatfield.
Representative-elect Pauline Wendzel told WSJM News on election night last week that she had people waving their auto insurance bills in her face as she went door-to-door in Berrien County, telling her something needs to be done. Attempts are made every year in Lansing to change the system, but nothing has happened thus far.
