Governor Rick Snyder is not giving any indication on where he stands on controversial bills passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature that are viewed as a power grab from incoming Democrats. At his year-end and term-end news conference in Lansing yesterday, Snyder said he does have personal feelings on those and other bills

“I will look at it, and if I believe it’s in the best public policy interest of our state, I’ll sign it. If it’s not, I won’t sign it,” explained the Republican governor, whose time in office is up at the end of the month. The controversial bills delay the minimum wage increase to $12 an hour from 2022 to 2030 and also put some limits on the authority of Governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General-elect Dana Nessel, and Secretary of State-elect Jocelyn Benson, all of whom are Democrats. 2019 will mark the first year since 1990 that all three of those offices have been held by Democrats.
