Man Facing Charges For West MI Church Attack

A west Michigan man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a person and destroying property at a Grand Haven church on Sunday. Grand Haven Department of Public Safety Detective Lieutenant Joe Boyle tells us it happened at St. Patrick-St. Anthony’s Church.

“There was a despondent individual inside who had been destroying items belonging to the church,” Boyle said. “There was also information that there were sort of explosives — fireworks — that were strategically placed by doors and stairwells in the church.”

Boyle says nothing exploded. The suspect allegedly attacked a church employee, who is okay. The suspect had to be tased before he was arrested. Boyle says they suspect mental health issues.
