The woman charged with murder for allegedly plotting the death of her Army sergeant husband on New Year’s Eve is scheduled to be in court today. That, however, is weather-dependent as all Berrien County offices including the courthouse were closed yesterday due to the weather. Kemia Hassel is is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. in front of Judge Angela Pasula, and WSJM News will be there.

Prosecutors say she planned the killing of Sergeant Tyrone Hassel the Third, who was shot and killed outside his parents’ house in St. Joseph Township after bringing his wife food from a family gathering in Benton Harbor. The accused gunman, Jeremy Cuellar, remains in jail in Georgia awaiting extradition. Cuellar and Kemia Hassel were having an affair, and all three were stationed together at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
