The South Haven City Council is tentatively moving on marijuana businesses, adopting one resolution and one ordinance this week regarding such establishments in the city. City Manager Brian Dissette tells us the resolution allows the city’s Planning Commission time to study regulations.

“City Council made clear at the recent special meeting the types of businesses that they’d like considered,” said Dissette. “Potentially a total number of those types of businesses they’d like considered within the city, and formally requested the Planning Commission begin the public process of generating rules for the council’s consideration.”

The ordinance referred to as a “placeholder,” prohibiting marijuana establishments in the city while the Planning Commission develops future regulations within the next six months with a deadline of July 31st of this year. The deadline may be extended, and the city can also opt out.
