Changes are coming for the lighthouse tours in St. Joseph that are put on by the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center. Community Engagement Coordinator Kate Ulrey tells us they’re adding Wednesday evening tours from 7 pm to sunset and Sunday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m.

“We realize that so many people in the community want to see the lighthouse and we wanted to make sure that more people could see it, that it was open more, that it was accessible, because it’s a city treasure,” Ulrey said.

The tours will get underway in just a few months and run from Memorial Day through September 8. Ulrey says if you want a tour before Memorial Day, it is possible by calling her at the Heritage Center providing the weather is good. Tours are also being added on Friday mornings in August from 6 to 8 a.m.

Another change this year is the elimination of the $350 fee for private tours. Instead, there will be a $50 fee to book that, and then the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center will charge $10 per person in a group. Ulrey says they’re hoping that change spurs more private tours as well.
