Lawmaker Optimistic About E-Cigarette Legislation

Legislation that would ban the sale of e-cigarettes to minors in Michigan is making its way through the state House. State Representative Beth Griffin of Mattawan tells WSJM News the committee hearing on the plan brought to light one question. It was whether the liquids used in those products, which sometimes contain no nicotine, should be included.

“According to the way our bill is written, even a liquid that has zero percent nicotine, because it is an e-cigarette product, it would count under the law to make it illegal for children under 18,” Griffin said.

Griffin says the law right now does not specifically ban the sale of e-cigarette products to minors. She’s heard from many school officials concerned about the subject. She hopes to see the bill approved this session, although notes spring break may put a delay on it.
