Andrews University is rising up to fight abuse. Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion Michael Nixon tells WSJM News the university hosted its first-ever Rise Up Against Abuse Rally last week, launching the Rise Up Against Abuse initiative. It’s to help people use awareness, intervention, and prevention to take action against all forms of abuse.

“Sexual assault, domestic violence, and things of that nature, but we also looked at things like mental abuse, emotional abuse, and also spiritual abuse in faith communities, us having a faith community here at Andrews,” Nixon said.

Andrews is working with staff to continue ongoing abuse education for students. During the rally last week, they erected a solidarity wall where people could leave messages, and the university plans to leave it up. Ongoing efforts through the Rise Up Against Abuse Initiative will be posted at RiseUpAgainstAbuse.com.
