Lake Michigan College will bestow 505 degrees and certificates on 485 students at Sunday’s commencement at the Mendel Center Mainstage. The student speaker for the 72nd annual exercise will be Jenna Dolezan, a 2017 St. Joseph High School graduate and native of Benton Harbor who is receiving an Associate in Business Administration. She chose to go to LMC after her mother was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer during her senior year of high school, saying she wanted to stay home for college. Dolezan is a first-generation college student and got involved immediately by joining the Student Senate in the second week of her freshman year. She will attend Grand Valley State University in the fall, seeking a bachelor’s degree in marketing with the goal of having a career in sports marketing management.

LMC’s commencement will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 on the Benton Harbor campus. This year’s class has graduates from 20 different countries, 13 states, and 79 high schools. The ceremony will include students who graduated in Summer 2018, Fall 2019 and Spring 2019 semesters.
