The Detroit District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is once again holding its annual photo contest. Army Corps ranger Michelle Briggs at the Soo Locks tells WSJM News they’re taking submissions from amateur photographers.

“We would like the photos to feature Corps of Engineers structures or projects,” Briggs said. “That’s things like harbors or the breakwaters like the one you have there in St. Joe-Benton Harbor.”

Briggs says the winner last year was a Marquette woman. She notes there are plenty of things to pick for entries.

“If you see a pier or a breakwater, chances are it’s a Corps of Engineers structure, and that’s exactly the kind of thing we like to see featured in these beautiful photos.”

Briggs says the submissions will be taken through June 3. The corps will post the entries to its Facebook page then and the public can vote through the 17th. The top 12 entries will be featured in an Army Corps downloadable calendar, and the top three photographers will get plaques. You can find the contest rules right here.
